Wild Growth Nerf: Why Restoration Druids Are Concerned

After casting, the spell provides seven seconds of healing over time to the selected player's party, including pets.

However, this does not mean every Wild Growth cast becomes ineffective. Predictable encounter damage gives Restoration players time to prepare, while sustained incoming damage still creates opportunities for the healing-over-time effect to deliver value.
The main difference is that Restoration Druids must anticipate damage instead of reacting instantly.
Bloom Replaces Gift of the Earthmother
Another important adjustment is the replacement of Gift of the Earthmother with Bloom.
Gift of the Earthmother previously reduced the global cooldown of Rejuvenation, Swiftmend, and Wild Growth by 0.5 seconds. Losing this benefit makes consecutive healing casts feel slower.
Bloom introduces a different mechanic. When Rejuvenation or Regrowth expires naturally, it heals the target for an amount based on 100% of the Druid's Spirit. If the effect is dispelled, its listed healing is 50% of Spirit.
This creates a timing decision. Refreshing a HoT early may sacrifice Bloom's expiration heal, while allowing it to expire on a healthy target can cause overhealing.
Bloom therefore does not directly replace the responsiveness lost with Gift of the Earthmother. Its actual contribution depends on encounter damage and expiration timing.
Restoration PvP Faces Additional Problems
The longer Wild Growth cast creates opportunities for opponents to interrupt the spell or force the Druid to move.
Swiftmend remains instant, but it requires the target to already have the Druid's Rejuvenation or Regrowth.
One important interaction remains unresolved: whether Swiftmend consumes that HoT and, if so, whether its removal triggers Bloom.
Until this is verified, Restoration players should not include an additional Bloom heal in their calculations.
Is Restoration Still Viable at Launch?
Restoration remains a reasonable choice for players who enjoy managing healing-over-time effects and predicting encounter damage.
However, players who prefer instant group recovery may find the revised playstyle considerably less attractive.
